The image below is of the galaxy cluster Abell 1656 - the Coma Cluster.
Below the image is a list of all the galaxies identified within the image.
This is the sum of four exposures obtained using the SLOOH Dome 1 HM
camera with the Planetary Nebula setting. The images were captured 20th and
22nd June 2007. The four images were stacked using MAXIM DL, de-noised using
Neat Image and PSP was used to adjust contrast and add labels. Unfortunately
one of the images had a satellite streak and there are several other
'artefacts' visible. The objective was to find out how many galaxies could
be identified in this field of view, (as part of a contest running in the
SLOOH forum).
The
Galaxies
were identified using Aladin with the LEDA Hypercat and NED catalogues. The
stated magnitude is the 'bt' magnitude from LEDA or 'Magnitude and filter' from
NED. The faintest object is Mag 20.07. The recession velocity is
Heliocentric and the highest is 58,579 km/s.
I know there are few more galaxies there if you want to squint at the
screen!
